Have you recently started to discover that you are having to call for more heating oil sooner than you would normally call in? If so, then you might be wasting a lot of your heating oil, which in turn means you are wasting a lot of money. Keep an eye out for the following things in order to stop wasting your heating oil and money.

Inspect The Heating Oil Tank For Leaks

If there was a large hole in your heating oil tank, you would have no problem noticing it. However, it is not usually as easy as that. There could be a super tiny hole in the bottom of the tank, causing oil to slowly seep out of it and onto the ground. It the leak is small enough, you might never spot it with a quick glance. However, it could still be enough to cause you to run out of oil faster than you normally would

The best way to inspect the oil tank for leaks is to take a plain piece of cardboard, flatten it down, and slide it under the tank. It is important to make sure that you are using enough cardboard so that the entire length and width has cardboard, since you just never know where there is going to be a leak. Of course, you need to make sure that you are placing a couple of small rocks or bricks on the edges of the cardboard so that it will not blow away. Go watch a movie or two. When you come back, you should be able to spot oil on the cardboard if there is indeed a leak.

Have An HVAC Technician Inspect The Furnace

There could be a leak somewhere in the oil furnace or, due to lack of servicing, the furnace could be using up more oil to do the same job. You might not have noticed that there was a problem with the home oil furnace. After all, you were still getting enough heat throughout the entire house. It was just costing you a little more in oil replacement costs.

As you can see, there are some very specific things that could be the problem if you feel as though you are going through heating oil too quickly. Once you have the previously mentioned things inspected, you will be able to come up with a solution to your problem. Talk to experts like Spell's Mechanical Services for more information.
